Lesson 10
This week we will:
DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN ASEXUAL AND SEXUAL REPRODUCTION
What you should know or be able to do: (Evidence of Learning)

• Define sexual reproduction as the union of a male and female gamete to produce a fertile offspring
• Define asexual reproduction as “Asexual reproduction occurs when an organism makes more of itself without exchanging genetic information with another organism through sex.”
• Understand the concept of cloning, especially in the horticultural industry.  Example – fruit trees grown from cuttings and fruit trees grown from seeds
• Make a cutting of a lavender or rosemary plant and grow your own plant via asexual reproduction
• Be able to correctly label a flower and its parts and define the function of each part
• Be able to correctly label the male and female reproductive organ of humans and state the function of each part.

• Define sexual and asexual reproduction
• Write a statement regarding the importance of asexual reproduction in the horticultural industry
• Correctly label a flower, male and female reproductive system and explain the function of each structure.
